EDENSIDE COMPUTERS FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER … “Information you can’t do without”
Hi Folks, this month is a good month for the monthly newsletter, I have broken the 100 contacts barrier, yip, I currently send out 110 newsletters ever month. Some people may glance through them; some people may drop the newsletters directly into their recycle bin, but the responses I get from people, tell me that the newsletters are a good thing.
• At the end of last month, one of my newsletter contacts was caught out by a scam phone call. They stated they never got round to reading the newsletters I sent to them, therefore never read anything about scam phone calls I had written about. They lost over £100 for freely available software. I was soon called upon to check over their PC and advise them to contact their bank. The moral of this story....my newsletter don’t cost you anything to read! http://snippets-by-esther.blogspot.com/2010/08/beware-of-scammers.html
• This month I installed Linux into my laptop, I am writing this newsletter with it. Ubuntu Linux is fantastic. Go on, try something different and free. Read my blog about Linux: http://edensidenewsletter.blogspot.com/2011/01/linux-word-without-gates-perfect-change.html
• Ever had printer issues?, Recently I had a callout regarding a printing issue, the printer would work fine but it wouldn’t print emails, I have had this issue before and now found it was the internet browser that caused the issue. I binned Internet Explorer and installed Google Chrome, went to BT Yahoo emails and was able to print off their emails. Problem solved. Chrome is faster than IE, try it, you will not be disappointed: http://www.google.com/chrome

• I recently purchased a Google Nexus Android mobile phone and had issues with battery life, it would only last 6-8 hours! I did a bit of research and hope that this will help other folk out there with battery draining mobiles: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/25319/complete-guide-to-maximizing-your-android-phones-battery-life/
• A customer emailed me with broadband speed problems, his friend 100 yards away seemed to get a much faster broadband/download speed. There are several factors involve here, broadband package, the building the router is in, wireless or Ethernet connection, the list goes on but here is a couple of links that may help: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/
